Dr. Jelena Mirkovic was invited to deliver a keynote at the IEEE sponsored workshop on Computer and Networking Experimental Research Using Testbeds (CNERT). Jelena spoke about "The Art and Science of Testbed Experimentation" to an audience of approximately 50 people from academia (faculty and students) and industry. As Figure 1 (below) from her talk illustrates, outsiders imagine tesbed experimentation as a sophisticatd and seamless process, where templates and tools are at the researcher's fingertips and can be easily combined into complex experiments.

All components in the DETERLab Containers System have been upgraded as of June 15, 2016. The host OS for all containers is now Ubuntu 14.04. The QEMU-KVM package was upgraded to 2.51-1 and all OpenVZ components were upgraded to the latest versions.
Virtual Distributed Ethernet (VDE) was dropped as the QEMU-KVM network implementation and replaced with a Linux bridge/tap mechanism. This gives an order of magnitude speed increase for QEMU-KVM networking from roughly 450 MBs to 4.5 GBs.

The new MAGI version was released on June 6, 2016, and is available to use on the DETERLab testbed. The new release includes support to develop agents in C. The C-agent library includes support for data management, agent response triggers, and logging.
The release includes a simple math calculator c agent, which is available as part of the magi modules library. The agent, named cagent, illustrates how to use the C agent library and supports addition and subtraction functions. It provides an overview of the different elements required to completely develop a C agent.
