I attended the USENIX CSET Workshop last month. This was the 5th CSET workshop.  The papers this year represented testbed designs, usage and education.  We had two papers from the DETER team - "Beyond Disk Imaging for Preserving User State in Network Testbeds" by Jelena Mirkovic, Abdulla Alwabel and Ted Faber and "Analyzing Resiliency of the Smart Grid Communication Architectures under Cyber Attack" by  Anas AlMajali, Arun Viswanathan, and Clifford Neuman. You can see copies of them and the presentations below. In addition to these two papers the paper, "Collaborative Red Teaming for Anonymity System Evaluation", by Sandy Clark, Chris Wacek, Matt Blaze, Boon Thau Loo, Micah Sherr, Clay Shields, and Jonathan Smith describes how they used DeterLab to test emerging anonymity technologies.  While the paper, "Towards a Framework for Evaluating BGP Security" by Olaf Maennel, Iain Phillips, Debbie Perouli,Randy Bush, Rob Austein, and Askar Jaboldinov, described the use of the STARBED testbed for evaluating BGP security.  We are in the process of federating DETER and STARBED and we had some excellent hallway conversations with the designers and users of STARBED.  Finally there were several interesting talks on teaching cyber security including an interactive game (see picture below) described in "Students Who Don’t Understand Information Flow Should be Eaten: An Experience Paper" by Roya Ensafi, Mike Jacobi, and Jedidiah R. Crandall.  All of these papers and the presentations are available on the USENIX CSET web site.
